Happiness Is All Around You
celebrates the discovery of life through a child's eyes, awakening little ears and hearts to
the world around them and to the music inside us all.Happiness Is All Around You, geared for kids ages 2-7 years, is Allison's first CD of children's music. Her joyful presence, energetic vocal and dramatic style is evident in this delightfully eclectic collection of sixteen original and traditional children's songs. Its colorful music will spark children's innate musicality, self-expression and imagination while encouraging families to interact in meaningful and playful ways. Allison combines her talents in the arts, training and experience as a professional singer and teacher to create a CD that is uniquely educational and entertaining. The CD begins with some traditional favorites. In Music Train, violins mimic train whistles inviting the young listener to come on board and embark on a musical journey. Kids will want to dance along in the jazzy rendition of You Gotta Sing and sing along in the accapella version of The More We Get Together. Some of the most poignant songs on the CD are original tunes by Allison DeSalvo, which touch upon subjects that resonate for families today. Special Game, a fast-paced, humorous duet between a mother and her daughter, depicts how even in the midst of busy schedules' parents and children create special moments and life long memories. The title song Happiness Is All Around You is a tribute to Allison's own childhood, set against a background of Afro-Caribbean rhythms that conjure up her own memories of beach days in San Francisco. The wistful melody of Goodnight Lullaby eases the restless child into sleep, gently taking them through all the parts of their body, while soothing any fears or anxiety. Other original contributions are by Allison's friend and collaborator, Mark Caruso. His delightful do-wop, On My Own, portrays the first day of school, taking a child through initial feelings of uncertainty to newfound confidence and independence. Orange makes magic by mixing it up with colors and rhyming. Look Up playfully asks 'what do you see?' up - down and all around and Mom and Dad tenderly honors the love between parents and their children. The album also includes songs by well-known songwriters. The honky-tonk, story-like Circus Song brings a make believe menagerie of animals home from the circus. Bob Schneider's One Big Family, teaches children how to say 'hello' in different languages, and Raffi's Just Like The Sun, celebrates the bounty of nature's gifts. In the end the train returns with This Little Light Of Mine reminding children to shine, shine, SHINE! Allison is accompanied by an array of wonderful musicians and several children on the CD bringing a charm and freshness not often heard. Since its release Happiness Is All Around You has been winning praise from parents and educators from New York to California. Her "contagious enthusiasm, creative spirit and beautiful, singing voice", says Toni Wisti of Discovery Programs, is why parents are already saying their kids are listening to the CD everyday, dancing, play-acting and memorizing songs, making them their own.
